An inmate of a maximum security jail complex died in his cell just two days after he was booked on theft and drug charges, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.
Authorities said the inmate, 45-year-old Anthony Creston Brown of Cerritos, was found unresponsive in the Theo Lacy Facility on Sunday afternoon.
Despite the deputies’ and correctional medical staff’s attempts at life-saving measures, officials pronounced Brown dead around 4:31 p.m.
“Preliminarily, there are no suspicious circumstances,” the sheriff’s department said in a release. “A final cause of death will be determined following an independent autopsy and toxicology.”
On Friday, Dec. 27, officers with the La Palma Police Department arrested Brown on a warrant out of Los Angeles County for theft.
While booking Brown at the Theo Lacy Facility, police added another charge for possessing drugs/paraphernalia in prison/jail, according to the sheriff’s department.
Details are limited, officials did not immediately reveal further information about the theft Brown committed or whether drugs were a factor in his death.
