A 33-year-old man pleaded guilty and was immediately sentenced Thursday to 19 years in prison for stabbing his grandmother in Santa Ana, the second time he was convicted of attacking the victim.
Edward Alexander Dominguez pleaded guilty to attempted murder with sentencing enhancements for attempted premeditated murder, causing great bodily injury on an elder and the personal use of a deadly weapon.

Dominguez accepted a plea deal from Orange County Superior Court Judge Larry Yellin, who gave the defendant credit for 1,779 days behind bars.
Dominguez used two knives in the attack on the victim, who was stabbed about 4:25 p.m. Oct. 8, 2020 in the 700 block of North Minter Street, according to police.
Dominguez fought with someone who intervened to protect the victim and then left the residence, but was arrested nearby a short time later, police said.
