SANTA ANA, California — A disturbance call involving an armed suspect restraining a woman led to an officer-involved shooting in Santa Ana on January 1, 2025. The incident occurred when officers responded to a report of a 55-year-old Anaheim man holding a 79-year-old family member at knifepoint in a driveway.Officers arrived at the scene with emergency lights and sirens, encountering the suspect armed with a knife. The suspect refused to release the victim, prompting an officer-involved shooting, according to the Santa Ana Police Department. The suspect sustained a gunshot wound and was treated by the Orange County Fire Authority before being transported to a local hospital, where he remains in critical condition. Neither the victim nor the officers were harmed, and a knife was recovered at the scene.An investigative team, including the Santa Ana Police Department’s Internal Affairs Division, Homicide Detectives, and investigators from the Orange County District Attorney’s Office, is conducting the investigation.
