Irvine police arrest two Los Angeles men for catalytic converter theft

IRVINE, California — Two Los Angeles men were arrested on New Year’s Day in Irvine for allegedly stealing catalytic converters from cars, according to the Irvine Police Department. Officers tracked the suspects to Westpark and discovered stolen converters and narcotics in their vehicle.Eric Gregory Hoppenstand, a 41-year-old from Los Angeles, was arrested for unlawful possession of a catalytic converter, drug paraphernalia, and narcotics. Alberto Carrillo, a 38-year-old from Los Angeles, was arrested for an outstanding warrant and unlawful possession of a catalytic converter. Both men were taken to Orange County Jail, the department stated.The investigation is ongoing, and detectives have already matched one catalytic converter to a victim’s vehicle and returned it. Detectives will continue to contact potential victims as the case progresses.
