A California corrections officer is recovering after being stabbed twice by an inmate using a makeshift weapon, authorities announced Monday.
The incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. Sunday at the Richard J. Donovan Correction Center (RJD), a California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) news release stated.
“Incarcerated person Nelson Barrera allegedly used an improvised weapon to stab an officer, striking the officer’s protective vest twice,” the release stated.
