Boat operator charged in fatal Long Beach crash

LOS ANGELES, California — A Long Beach man has been charged in connection with a deadly boat crash that killed one person and injured seven others in Alamitos Bay last year, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

Kevin King, a 57-year-old resident of Long Beach, faces one count of vehicular manslaughter while operating a vessel under the influence and one count of operating a vessel under the influence of alcohol, both felonies, in case 25LBCF00476. He is also accused of personally inflicting great bodily injury on seven individuals. King pleaded not guilty during his arraignment, with a preliminary hearing set for May 9 in the Long Beach Courthouse. If convicted, he could face up to 13 years in state prison.

The incident occurred on July 3, 2024, when King allegedly crashed his 48-foot sportfishing boat into the jetty of Alamitos Bay while intoxicated. John Correa, a 59-year-old from Long Beach, died at the scene, and seven others sustained serious injuries.
