Main Beach Demonstrators Protest State of the Country

Hundreds gathered at Main Beach on Saturday, July 19 for a “Day of Action: Peaceful Demonstration for Democracy” to express their views on the current state of the United States. Co-organized by the Laguna Beach Democratic Club and Indivisible CA 47, the demonstration was part of a series of organized protests along the coastline, from Seal Beach to Dana Point.

“I’m here to express exactly what’s wrong with this country today,” said Alan Rubinstein. “We’re fighting for our rights. We’re fighting for everything that this country stands for, and that is anti-fascism, anti-king, anti-dictators. That’s the direction we’ve been going for the first six months of the Trump administration.”

Signs were important. Some people brought their own, some made them on the spot, and some chose from a collection of prepared signs spread out on the grass: “No Kings!”; “Fear is Destroying Our Institutions”; “I Stand With Hardworking Immigrants”; “Save Democracy”; “Stop the Malarkey and Tax the Oligarchy”; “Stop the Kidnapping”; “A government that Hides Monsters is a Monstrous Government.”…
