A local nonprofit that helps animals is speaking out against a popular pest control method, using the recent rehabilitation of a great horned owl as an example of devastating unintended consequences.
The owl will have to spend months at the Wetlands and Wildlife Care Center in Huntington Beach after getting caught in a glue trap.
The predatory bird’s recovery process will take that long because someone tried to help cut him out of the trap, which only worsened his condition.
“The result? His feathers were so damaged, they now won’t grow back until he molts,” the nonprofit said on social media. “That means months of extended care at the Wetlands and Wildlife Care Center.”…
