A vehicle was torn apart in a violent rollover crash in Newport Beach early Thursday morning, ejecting its engine onto the sidewalk and scattering debris just feet from a frozen yogurt shop.
Video obtained by KTLA shows a dark-colored SUV flipped on its side along East Coast Highway near Carnation Avenue, its roof crushed and glass littering the roadway. The vehicle came to rest beneath the red-and-white awning of Golden Spoon Frozen Yogurt, narrowly missing the front of the shop.
The force of the impact ripped the engine from the vehicle, which landed several feet away near a trash can outside the business. While the car appeared to stop short of striking the storefront directly, footage showed shattered windows, bent signage, and rips in the awning. It was not immediately clear if that damage was caused by this crash.
