Efforts underway to prevent trash in local streams from reaching ocean

Recent heavy rainfall in Southern California has swelled the banks of local rivers which are now carrying significant amounts of debris downstream, threatening coastal environments in Los Angeles and Orange counties.

On Monday, officials and residents expressed concern that trash swept into waterways like the San Gabriel River and its tributaries, including Coyote Creek in La Palma, would ultimately pollute Seal Beach and the Pacific Ocean.
