Two Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies rescued two paragliders from near-drowning after their equipment became entangled in the water, officials said.
Deputies Matkin and Grigoryan were dispatched to the scene after receiving a report of paragliders in distress. Upon arrival, they saw the individuals struggling as cords from their paragliding gear wrapped around their feet, making it nearly impossible for them to swim. The heavy equipment was dragging the paragliders underwater, creating a potentially fatal situation.

Bodycam footage released by LASD shows the deputies quickly removing their own gear before plunging into the surf and swimming roughly 75 feet to reach the struggling paragliders. Once alongside the victims, the deputies used knives to carefully cut the cords that had wrapped around their feet, freeing them from the weight of the equipment and halting their downward pull.
