DUI checkpoint will be held in east Long Beach Jan. 23

On Friday, Jan. 23, the Long Beach Police Department will conduct a driving under the influence (DUI)/Driver License (CDL) Checkpoint from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. in the east side.

DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on data showing incidents of impaired driving-related crashes, according to a statement from the police department. The primary purpose of DUI/CDL checkpoints are to promote public safety by taking impaired drivers off the road, increase awareness of the dangers associated with drinking and driving, and serve as a deterrent to potential impaired and unlicensed drivers.

Some prescription medications and over-the-counter drugs may also interfere with driving. While medicinal and recreational marijuana are legal, driving under the influence of marijuana is illegal…
