CdM restaurant gets OK to

keep COVID-era expansion of outdoor dining patio

A Corona del Mar restaurant got the go-ahead last week to permanently keep their COVID-era expanded outdoor dining patio following a unanimous approval by the Newport Beach Planning Commission.

Commissioners voted 6-0 (Mark Rosene was absent) on January 22 in favor of a conditional use permit for El Cholo to permanently expand the existing space by 975 square feet, resulting in a total of 1,709 square feet of outdoor dining area, with no change to the existing 5,347-square-foot interior of the restaurant.

El Cholo, located at 3520 East Coast Highway, previously received a temporary permit during the COVID-19 pandemic for the extended outdoor dining area and this project makes the expansion permanent…
