South L.A. Man Hears Gunshots, Then Realizes He Is The One Hit

A late-night burst of gunfire in Historic South-Central Los Angeles left a 46-year-old man wounded and briefly confused about what had just happened to him. He told detectives he first thought he was only hearing shots ring out on the street near East 43rd Place and Avalon Boulevard, then realized he was the one who had been hit.

Neighbors reported flashing police lights cutting through the darkness as officers flooded the block and taped off the area. The shooting was reported shortly before 11:30 p.m. Sunday at East 43rd Place near Avalon Boulevard, according to KTLA.

Officers responding to the call found the man lying in the street with a gunshot wound, and he was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, the outlet reported. Investigators said he told them he “heard gunfire then realized he had been struck,” according to KTLA…
