Irvine police rescue 4 people trapped upstairs, arrest knife suspect after hourslong standoff

Four people were rescued from an Irvine home Wednesday afternoon after police say a man armed with a knife prevented them from leaving during what authorities described as a family dispute.

The incident was first reported after 2 p.m. near Terrapin and Cadence, according to the Irvine Police Department, and a large police presence was seen in the neighborhood as officers worked to resolve the situation.
