Power Restored After Outage Hits North San Diego, Orange County

More than 100,000 customers across North San Diego County and southern Orange County lost power Thursday (March 27) evening in a widespread outage that lasted roughly an hour and 15 minutes before San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) restored service to all affected customers.

The outage began at 7:41 p.m. and power was fully restored by 8:56 p.m., according to SDG&E. The cause of the outage has not yet been determined, and the utility says it is actively investigating.

Coastal communities hit by the outage included Carlsbad, Encinitas, La Costa, Cardiff-by-the-Sea, and Olivenhain. Inland areas such as Escondido, Del Dios, Lake Hodges, San Pasqual, Rancho Peñasquitos, and Rancho Bernardo also lost power, as did parts of Rancho Santa Fe and the San Elijo Lagoon region. The disruption reached as far north as southern Orange County, affecting Laguna Hills, Laguna Niguel, Mission Viejo, and the San Juan Capistrano area…
