A southern California beach was temporarily closed on Thursday after a great white shark was spotted circling a surfer, officials said.
The Newport Beach Fire Department and Newport Beach Lifeguards confirmed the sighting of an approximately 8-foot great white shark circling a surfer off 35th Street in West Newport at around 1:15 p.m. Thursday.
