ANAHEIM, Calif. — The Rangers were given a chance.
They were technically afforded a few, if you count the one that the schedule makers offered them, the gem that their starter spun or the bases-loaded situation they created late, but right-handed pitcher Gavin Collyer set them up for what appeared to be the easiest opportunity of them all to at least avoid what became a sweep-clinching 2-1 walk-off loss to the Los Angeles Angels at Angels Stadium Sunday afternoon.
Collyer, with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning in a tied game, induced a could-have-been double play ball with runners at first and second base when Angels third baseman Oswald Peraza chipped a soft ground ball back up the middle of the infield. Rangers second baseman Justin Foscue fielded it, stepped on the bag for one out and bobbled the ball between his glove and right hand as he turned to his left. He recovered, but his throw to first baseman Jake Burger was low, and it skipped into the foul territory grass while pinch runner Donovan Walton sprinted home for a walk-off win…
