Huntsville paramedics urge CPR training before emergency strikes

First responders say knowing what to do in the first few minutes of a cardiac emergency can make all the difference.

This week is National CPR and AED Awareness Week. HEMSI says when someone goes into cardiac arrest, the actions taken before first responders arrive can be critical. Starting CPR right away can help keep blood flowing and improve a person’s chances of survival.

If someone is experiencing a cardiac emergency, HEMSI says to get them on a hard, flat surface and start CPR immediately. Place the heel of your hand in the center of the chest, lock your arms, and push fast and hard. The goal is between 100 and 120 compressions per minute until help arrives…
