Alabama Tennessee Valley Faces Level 2 Severe Storm Risk Saturday as Strong Wind Gusts and Small Hail Threaten Florence Huntsville and Decatur

FLORENCE — The Storm Prediction Center has defined a Level 2 of 5 risk of severe storms across the Tennessee Valley this afternoon and early tonight, targeting communities including Florence, Huntsville, and Decatur, with heavier storms capable of producing strong wind gusts and small hail as Alabama sees its usual summer mix of sun and scattered thunderstorms.

Level 2 Risk Targets Tennessee Valley

The elevated Level 2 threat spans the Tennessee Valley region of northern Alabama, stretching across Florence, Huntsville, and Decatur, where the strongest storms this afternoon and evening carry the greatest potential for strong wind gusts and small hail. A lesser Level 1 marginal risk extends farther south to Livingston, Georgiana, and Geneva.

The highest chance of a passing shower or storm statewide will come from around noon to midnight, with the chance of any one spot getting wet today at 35 to 45 percent, rising to 55 to 60 percent Sunday as coverage increases.

Sunday Outlook Shows Continued Coverage

Sunday’s severe weather outlook shows the elevated risk zone shifting slightly but continuing to cover much of northern Alabama, including Florence, Huntsville, Decatur, Birmingham, and Gadsden, with Tuscaloosa, Montgomery, and Auburn remaining under a broader marginal risk area as scattered storm chances persist into the new week.

Week Ahead Trends Toward Fewer Storms

Shower and storm coverage will be somewhat elevated Monday and Tuesday before trending toward fewer showers each day for the remainder of the week. Afternoon highs will run in the mid-to-upper 80s Monday and Tuesday, climbing closer to 90 degrees Wednesday through Friday as the pattern gradually dries out across Alabama
