Madison Utilities‘ Board of Directors approved a bid Monday to begin an upgrade of the utility’s Western Interceptor, a project that will replace a 20-inch gravity sewer main with a larger 30-inch line — and force a lengthy closure of the Bradford Creek Greenway.
The $3.5 million project will replace about 7,000 linear feet, or roughly 1.3 miles, of sewer main along with 14 manholes and other related infrastructure, according to Madison Utilities. The upgrade is meant to add capacity for current and future wastewater needs.
Work will take place along the same corridor where the Interceptor was originally built in the late 1980s, running from just south of Mill Road to just south of Heritage Elementary School.
