DECATUR, Ala. (WHNT) — A Decatur man charged in connection to a 2021 murder pleaded guilty and is set for sentencing in April.
Darrell Da’Juan Clemons, 22, entered a ‘blind’ guilty plea on January 29, 2024 for the murder of Avery Robertson. A blind plea means there was no prior agreement reached between him and the state regarding a recommended sentence, and his sentencing will be up to a judge.

On August 18, 2021, police said officers were called to a shooting in the 2800-block of McDonald Court SW . Officers found Robertson had been shot, and he was taken to Parkway Medical Center where he later died.
At the time of the incident, investigators said the shooting stemmed from an altercation between two acquaintances. An uninvolved third acquaintance, identified as Clemons, was named as a suspect in the shooting by investigators and arrested.
Clemons was taken to the Morgan County Jail, and booked into the jail on a murder charge with a bond set at $150,000.
