ALABAMA (WHNT) — Just over four months after Decatur police officers shot and killed Steve Perkins at his home, the victim’s brother is joining state lawmakers in support of access to police body camera video.
Nick Perkins and his family demanded that the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency release the footage of the September 29 shooting but were denied.

State Sen. Merika Coleman is proposing legislation to make police body and dash camera video more available to the public.
Specifically, it would change the law and make those videos public records.
Perkins says the past four months have been difficult, especially not knowing how exactly the shooting occurred.
“The fact that from September to January, that much time passed,” Perkins explained. “That was a rough period, and this happens a lot with police departments and families. For anyone to not know what exactly happened to your loved one and you are in limbo, is a horrible feeling.”
