The Sheriff’s Citizens Academy is a program that explains the purpose of several specialized divisions within the sheriff’s office, including:
- Sheriff’s Crime Scene Division
- Traffic Safety Unit
- K9
- Jail Facility
- Patrol Division
- School Resource Officers (SRO)
- Criminal Investigations Division
- Street Crimes Unit (SCU)
- Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT)
Local church talks safety and security following recent church shooting in Houston
Those participating will get in-depth information from law enforcement officers, criminal investigators, recruiting/training staff, the District Attorney’s office and the forensics team. This allows them to “gain knowledge and expertise in these diverse areas of law enforcement.”
The sheriff’s office says that this program is a great opportunity for people interested in a law enforcement career or just want to learn more about how your local justice system works.
