Publix Expands in Alabama: New Store Opening Soon

Last month in this space I announced the new Costco location coming to Madison, Alabama in November. Hot on the heels of that news comes another exciting announcement: a second major grocery chain is expanding in the state.

Publix, the Florida-based grocer, is planning a new store in Alabama. The 46,791-square-foot market, which will include a pharmacy, will be located at the Semmes Village Shopping Center at 2035 Schillinger Rd N, Suite 100, Semmes. The grand opening is set for October 9th. Publix currently operates nearly 1,400 locations across 8 southern states, with 92 of those stores in Alabama.

Founded in Winter Haven, Florida in 1930, Publix has a long history in the South.
