Douglas High School students use grant funds to build greenhouse

DOUGLAS, Ala. ( WHNT ) — Douglass High School is making progress on a big project that will help students learn about agriculture on their campus.

Douglas High School’s Conservation Laboratory is now standing after it was built by students and volunteers over the summer. It will be used as a greenhouse and outdoor classroom to teach students about horticulture and agriculture science.

Huntsville Parks & Recreation will host Youth Pickleball Clinic

Students are currently learning agricultural construction skills while they finish the trim, hang doors and build tables for the greenhouse.

“So our students can use this and learn more about anything from horticulture, hydroponics, different things related to our AG program,” said Douglas High School Principal Brian Sauls.

The greenhouse at Douglas High was built using a $10,000 grant from Blue Cross and Blue Shield. A rainwater collection system to be used for sustainable irrigation is set to be installed between October and November.
