In response to numerous complaints from Athens residents about missed trash pickups, damaged property, and other sanitation-related concerns, the City of Athens has introduced a new solution to make things better for its residents.
According to the city’s public relations social media page, the Sanitation Department has installed cameras on garbage trucks to monitor each pickup closely. This footage allows supervisors to review and address any complaints more effectively, ensuring issues are resolved and service improves overall.
To help keep things running smoothly, Athens residents are encouraged to follow these guidelines on trash pickup days:
- Place trash bins at the curb by 6 AM.
- Avoid placing bins next to mailboxes or other objects.
- Make sure bins aren’t overflowing, and don’t place extra items next to them.
- If you have multiple bins, leave enough space between them so the truck’s automated arms can grab each bin without knocking them over.
