HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — As the year comes to an end, many in the community need a little extra help putting food on the table.
Downtown Rescue Mission teamed up with a local business to put together some extra meals on Friday. The nonprofit gives out about 1,200 meals every day.
L3Harris Technologies found a way to help out with that big job.

Employees came together to pack 2,000 box lunches for Downtown Rescue Mission. Those meals will be handed out over the next two days to the men, women and children who are staying at the shelter and those who come by for a meal.
Ashleigh Hayes, the Public Relations Coordinator with Downtown Rescue Mission, said box lunches are easy to hand out, people can take them to-go and kids can bring them to school.
“Sometimes people underestimate the power of a good sandwich,” Hayes said. “We’ve got ham, turkey, with cheese, condiments and snacks. It’s a full lunch, and it will just be nice, easy and simple, but really good food.”
