ALEA was called in to investigate the shooting since an officer was involved.
On Sunday afternoon, ALEA told News 19 that Jeremiah Matkins, 21, of Huntsville, discharged a firearm, killing Ray’shun Markelle Bates, 23, of Decatur. The agency said two other people were injured and taken to the hospital for treatment.
Matkins was arrested and charged with murder for the shooting. He is being held in the Madison County Jail with a bond set at $50,000.
According to ALEA, the officer “was working a departmentally approved off-duty security job for the business” when the shooting took place. ALEA said he fired his weapon, but no one was hit by his gunfire.
