Bob Jones teacher named Alabama’s ‘High School Teacher of the Year’

MADISON, Ala. ( WHNT ) — The Alabama Conference of Theatre named its Teacher of the Year to a Madison City School District teacher.

Bob Jones Performing Arts Teacher Mary Davis was awarded as the 2024 High School Theatre Teacher of the Year.

According to her bio on the Bob Jones High School page , she started teaching Theatre in 2001 in a different school district and then transferred to Bob Jones in 2005. She said she always teaches Beginning and Intermediate Drama, periodically teaches an Advanced Drama class and co-teaches Advanced Production.

A main point from her bio is that she is “a teacher by choice because I believe it is a calling and not a career. I love my students, and pour into their lives, trying to give them an understanding and appreciation for the theatrical arts while having lots of fun,” Davis said.

She took to Facebook on Dec. 8, 2024 , to announce that she was selected for this award. In her post she wrote that she was nominated by two directors in the state: A former student and a colleague/friend for her 24 years of being a theatre teacher.
