The Decatur Police Department confirms that a man arrested during an incident that sparked backlash on social media, has now died. Police say they are seeking help from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency and the FBI to complete a review of the incident.
This follows a response last Tuesday, when Decatur Police say they were called multiple times to the Brookridge Apartments about John Scott Daniel, Jr.’s behavior. At least two of those calls came from his mother.
Police body camera video from that night shows officers arriving on the scene and trying to get Daniel to go to the hospital, saying he was experiencing a mental crisis.
