MADISON COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) — A former Madison County Sheriff has died, according to the sheriff’s office.

It is with a heavy heart that I share the passing of Sheriff Joe W. Patterson. Sheriff Patterson was more than a leader; he was a pillar of integrity, compassion and dedication. His commitment to justice and community service left an indelible mark on Madison County. His legacy is not only in law enforcement but in the countless lives he touched and inspired. I owe so much of my journey to his guidance and belief in me. May we all strive to uphold the values he embodied and continue to serve our community with the same unwavering dedication.We will all miss you Sheriff Joe W. Patterson.
