HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — A Huntsville gym is closed until further notice after a vehicle careened into a support column at the front of the building late Monday night.
An SUV appears to have traveled 30-40 feet from the parking lot outside the 24e health club at University Place, near the intersection of University Drive and Research Park Blvd. NW., crashing into the cinder block column and causing significant damage to it. A second column appeared to have much less severe damage.
The main part of the building — which is used by numerous businesses — did not take a direct strike, but a notice of mandatory evacuation was posted on the entrance to the 24-hour fitness center and Huntsville Fire Rescue was still at the scene Tuesday morning.
