The impact of Huntsville’s apartment surge

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) A new real estate study shows over 6,500 apartments were completed in the Huntsville metro area in 2024. That matches a 12-year total posted by the city from 2008-2020.

“You feel it and you see it driving around town,” Crunkleton Real Estate land specialist David Wilson said. “I get people asking me all the time. What is going on with all these apartments everywhere?”

Wilson says apartments have been popping up at a record pace. He was one of the creators of the Berkadia-Crunkleton report. But Wilson says with an occupancy rate of only 80%, developers are starting to avoid the rocket city and its already high supply…
