HUNTSVILLE, AL — In a powerful moment of public recognition, the Huntsville City Council honored Police Investigator Scott Northcutt with the prestigious Life-Saving Medal for an act of extraordinary bravery that saved a fellow officer’s life during a fiery crash earlier this year.

The dramatic incident unfolded on the night of February 18, when Investigator Northcutt encountered a severe collision near Pulaski Pike and Mallory Avenue. A massive fireball lit up the night as a Huntsville Police Department patrol car burned—an officer trapped inside, injured and helpless.

Without regard for his own safety, Northcutt sprang into action. He raced to the engulfed vehicle, where he found the officer suffering from severe burns and unable to escape due to a broken wrist. With the officer’s uniform already ablaze, Northcutt pulled him from the vehicle, extinguished the flames by rolling him on the ground, and shielded him from the intensifying inferno…
