LIMESTONE COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) — The State disclosed its intention on whether or not to seek the death penalty in a 2020 capital murder case, court documents show.
In 2020, Travis Lee Stanley was first charged in May 2020 for the murder of Joey Sutton. According to the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office, Sutton left his home and walked to Stanley’s house.

At that point, the two started to argue. According to the sheriff’s office, Stanley assaulted Sutton, who defended himself. Shortly after, LCSO said Stanley shot Sutton in front of his young son in the area of Mill Valley Drive.
