Impact Day issued Monday ahead of dangerous heat this week

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — The Tennessee Valley is about to see some of the hottest temperatures so far this summer! With a heatwave expected this week, it’s important to practice heat safety and find ways to stay cool.

An Impact Day has been issued for the area on Monday, ahead of the dangerous heat and humidity this week. Air temperatures will warm into the low to upper 90s, but high humidity will make it feel much hotter than that.

The National Weather Service in Huntsville has issued a Heat Advisory from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday. All of North Alabama is included in the advisory, except for DeKalb, Jackson, and Marshall counties. The areas under the advisory have the best chance of recording a heat index upward of 108 degrees on Monday.

Dangerous Heat This Week:

The dangerous heat and humidity will be thanks to a strong heat dome that will build over the eastern half of the United States. This weather setup will trap the high heat and humidity at the surface, preventing it from rising.

High temperatures this week are forecast to range from 92 to 98 degrees. With a deep tropical air mass in place, dew points will stay in the 70s, supporting humid and uncomfortable conditions.

The hottest days this week will be Tuesday and Wednesday, as the heat index could exceed 110 degrees in some locations. More heat alerts may be issued in the coming days, so make sure you stick with The Weather Authority for the latest…
