Huntsville Police launch new initiative to curb school zone dangers

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — As students head back to class, the Huntsville Police Department is cracking down on dangerous driving in school zones with a new initiative aimed at keeping kids safe.

The monthlong campaign, called Zero in the Zone, focuses on eliminating school zone crashes, distracted driving, and other risky behaviors during the busy back-to-school period. Officers and safety patrol aides will be stationed around school zones to monitor traffic and enforce speed limits.

“The safety of our students is non-negotiable,” Police Chief Kirk Giles said. “School zones exist for a reason, and our department has a zero-tolerance policy for speeding or distracted driving in and around these areas.”…
