Defendant in Hartselle capital murder told police victim cast spells on him

A preliminary hearing Monday revealed a disturbing mix of witchcraft, religion and violence as a Hartselle police sergeant recounted a capital murder defendant’s confession and motive for killing his former employer.

Wyatt Braxton Young, 25, was arrested and charged with capital murder on July 3 after police said he fatally shot 59-year-old Nancy Deanne Sandlin Fox inside her house in Hartselle.

He has been held in the Morgan County Jail without bond since then and appeared in District Judge Shelly Waters’ courtroom Monday wearing jail garb and shackles.
