HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The U.S. Space and Rocket Center is currently undertaking a significant restoration project on the historic A-12 aircraft, also known as the Oxcart. This aircraft, developed by the CIA during the 1960s, was designed to fly at high speeds and altitudes to evade Soviet defenses.
The National Museum of the U.S. Air Force loaned the A-12 to the Space and Rocket Center, where it has become a popular exhibit. The restoration involves stripping the aircraft down to its original materials and applying modern coatings.
