Huntsville Housing Authority curfew still in effect, officials considering extending it

HUNTSVILLE, Ala (WHNT) — Huntsville Housing Authority held its annual update meeting Monday, focusing on partnerships within the housing authority and touching on the number of residents living in the community.

For the past two months, individuals who live within the housing authority have been living under a curfew. The decision to put a curfew in place came after two people were killed at the LR Patton apartment complex in the same week back in June, although Executive Director Antonio McGinnis said they placed the curfew to address violence across the city.

McGinnis said residents have been responding in a positive way.

“I think our residents feel a lot safer,” he said. “They feel like their children can play outside. One resident said they feel like a ghost town when the curfew is implemented, and so we appreciate that because what we want is our residents to feel like they’re safe in their own backyard.”…
