Huntsville Police says the department is growing rapidly, and so is its Special Operations Division.
The division will be moving into a new building off 9th Avenue, near Lowe Mill. Currently, there are over 100 personnel in the division, including traffic services, school resource officers, and the SWAT team. Leaders say this new space is necessary because they currently have no dedicated office space. The units have to work remotely or commute in just for meetings, and the new location will fix that.
Huntsville Police Department Public Information Officer, Sgt. Christopher Jackson said, “As the city grows your law enforcement has to grow with it, you have to have the appropriate personnel to respond to all types of events and as the department itself has grown your specialized units are naturally going to grow as well, so you just have to have a space that’s more adaptable and better suited.”…
