Huntsville residents worry naming street for Martin Luther King Jr. will lower property values

The city of Huntsville moved forward with plans to rename a portion of Bob Wade Lane in north Huntsville Martin Luther King Jr. Highway as a continuation of the Northern Bypass.

The action comes despite opposition from some city residents who are concerned the renaming could lower property values based on the stigma placed on roads and streets named after the slain Civil Rights leader in other parts of the country.

Other residents are opposed because it would mean a change in mailing address. The residents voiced their concerns at the Huntsville Planning Commission meeting on Tuesday night.
