BELLE MINA, Ala. — The legal back-and-forth in the recently-built rock quarry in the Belle Mina community continues.
Now, a lawsuit has been filed against churches, a farm, and a pastor who have been fighting the presence of the quarry in their community. The group has filed a motion to dismiss.
According to the Southern Environmental Law Center, in the lawsuit filed in Indiana, “Elephants R Us claims the churches and pastor “interfered” with a lease contract between Elephant R Us LLC and another entity owned by the Sharp family, Stoned LLC, by speaking out against the harmful impacts of the quarry to the press, on social media, and in administrative proceedings, which Elephants R Us claims improperly delayed the quarry’s permits. Elephants R Us is asking for $1.6 million in damages plus attorney’s fees and costs.”…
