HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — The Huntsville Police Department wrapped up its participation in the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign, which ran from August 15 through September 2, targeting impaired driving across the city.
During the campaign, HPD’s DUI Task Force and patrol officers conducted traffic safety checkpoints and saturation patrols between 6 p.m. and 4 a.m., resulting in 53 arrests for driving under the influence, 551 citations and written warnings, and 72 traffic accidents during enforcement hours, 11 of which involved impaired drivers.
“Keeping impaired drivers off the road is a real team effort,” said Chief Kirk Giles. “Thanks to the combined work of our DUI Task Force and patrol officers, we were able to make a real difference in roadway safety before summer ended.”…
