Madison County Sheriff opens applications for 2025 Citizens Academy

MADISON COUNTY, ALABAMA, Ala. — The Madison County Sheriff’s Office is inviting residents to apply for its Fall 2025 Sheriff’s Citizens Academy, a seven-week program offering a behind-the-scenes look at the office, its personnel, and how law enforcement operates in the community.

The program begins Oct. 7 and concludes with a graduation ceremony on Nov. 18. Classes meet Tuesday nights from 6 to 9 p.m. and are open to Madison County residents age 21 and older. Applicants must pass background and driving history checks, and space is limited. The application deadline is Sept. 12.

Participants will receive more than 20 hours of instruction and hands-on experiences covering patrol operations, community policing, crisis management, forensic science, criminal investigations, corrections, Alabama law and the court system, and the organization of the sheriff’s office…
