Huntsville police urge caution after drivers hit patrol cars on I-565

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Huntsville Police Department is issuing a strong reminder to drivers about Alabama’s Move Over Law following two incidents where drivers failed to comply, resulting in collisions with police vehicles. The accidents occurred on Sunday, September 21, on I-565 near Sparkman Drive.

According to the department, officers were outside their patrol cars, clearing a vehicle from the roadway, when the first accident happened. “Remember: flashing lights mean slow down. Lane closures mean move over. Every driver who ignores it is risking their life and the lives of others,” the police department said in a Facebook post.

The first incident took place around 5:24 a.m. when officers were conducting traffic control and had closed two westbound lanes of I-565. A driver failed to move over and struck two unoccupied police vehicles. Both the driver and passenger sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to the hospital…
