Nonprofit offering free food boxes for furloughed federal workers

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — Thousands of federal workers across Alabama are furloughed or working without pay as the Government Shutdown continues into another week. However, one non-profit is working to ensure no one goes hungry.

OneGenerationAway, a Franklin, Tennessee-based nonprofit, is ramping up its efforts during the shutdown. Founder & CEO Chris Whitney told News 19 that he understands it can be hard for people who are going without a paycheck to balance bills and other needs.

“The mortgage company doesn’t stop, the gas bill doesn’t stop,” he said.
