Sheriff’s office urging people to ‘remain vigilant’ following rise in telephone scam reports

MADISON COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) — The Madison County Sheriff’s Office is asking people to be aware of a recent rise in telephone scams in the area.

According to MCSO, residents have reported they have received calls from people claiming to be with the sheriff’s office or other government agencies demanding immediate payment.

“In most cases, the scammers instruct victims to purchase gift cards, make wire transfers, or provide personal banking information under the pretense of resolving fictitious legal matters such as missed jury duty or unpaid fines,” MCSO said…
