Traffic lights in Hartselle to be upgraded

Hartselle is a third of the way through a project that will see traffic lights upgraded, according to city officials. New traffic signals powered by 360-degree cameras — replacing the older loop systems with sensors buried in the ground — have been approved for installation.

City engineer Ben Wood said the change marks a significant step forward for the city’s traffic management.

“A year ago, we incorporated four signal rotation systems in Hartselle,” Wood said. “Those systems seem to be working well. They are upgrades from our old loop systems for signal timing to a new single 360-degree video detection system.”…
